The small Lincolnshire village of Sutterton is located close to Boston, 6 miles to the south-west, in the ‘parts of Holland’ district of the county. Sutterton is one of 18 parishes in the Borough of Boston and enjoys the benefit of a railway station on the Spalding to Boston line. The village held its own two day race meeting in May 1724, beginning on Wednesday 27th May with a Weight for Inches Selling Handicap, with the winner offered for sale for £8.
The meeting was held on the Round Course, which implies that there was at least one other course used by the village, although no earlier evidence of racing can be found in the village. The Stamford Mercury advertised a second day of racing on Thursday 28th May 1724 when the main race was the Sutterton £5 Plate. Entries had to be made by Tuesday 26th May, with horses then stabled in local public house stables which had subscribed to the race fund.
Although the Stamford Mercury widely advertised the races, there is no evidence that they published race results after the meeting.
